In Episode 157, I speak with speaker, coach, workshop facilitator and soon-to-be-author, Eva Sifis.Eva is on a mission to help anyone who has an acquired brain injury, or any sort of trauma for that matter, move to a place of flourishing through intentional transformation. She is so passionate about this because in 1999 her career as a successful international dancer and performer was cut short when she was hit by a car and sustained an acquired brain injury. Her life changed in an instant, and now she wants to encourage everyone to be poised for the potential inside, despite circumstances. Get ready to be inspired by this podcast.
Once upon a time Eva Sifis was a dancer working across Australia and performing in cabaret shows in Japan. When she sustained a serious Acquired Brain Injury in 1999 due to being hit by a car, that life ended. After a prolonged coma, a new one began. She refers to this time as her second childhood. The second one lasted just as long! She had to learn everything over again – walking, talking, relating and, most importantly, dealing with a new Eva. However, at the time she didn't realise she was actually poised for potential and purpose.
She applied herself to recovery: physically, mentally and spiritually with great dedication. Through this very difficult period, she have realised a capability to overcome – to call on her resilience and strengths. Her physical needs were attended to very effectively within the system however she experienced a gap when it came to rejoining society. In order to actively integrate herself with the ‘outside world’, she both volunteered and worked widely within the national disability arts and advocacy arena. Through this her sense of self was bolstered and, while doing so, her direction has been laid before her.
Advanced Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009 was a huge challenge but she took the chance to re-evaluate her situation. She is now on the verge of her first book, and she is totally on purpose to live a life of joy and significance helping people all around the world. This is an incredible conversation with a wonderful lady.
